Da Lat – “The City of Dreams”, which owns the climate as well as the natural landscape with characteristics of the temperate zone. Therefore, this is one of the places that attracts tourists to relax and enjoy the cool atmosphere, completely different from the rest of Vietnam. Not only that, with its long formation and development, Dalat is also the land chosen by the French colonialists to become a resort for French soldiers during the time they were stationed in Indochina, to avoid the harsh sun of the tropics. Therefore, many works bearing the imprint of Western architecture were also built and exist to this day, many people still call this city with another name, a “miniature Paris”. In particular, Da Lat Railway Station is considered one of the most typical architectural works and at the same time the most popular tourist attraction of Da Lat city at the present time.
1. Overview of Dalat Railway Station
Dalat Railway Station is located in the center of Da Lat city, only 2 km from Lam Vien square to the east. This work was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam as a national historical and cultural relic in 2001. At the present time, Da Lat Railway Station is no longer used for transportation or transshipment between domestic locations, but tourism is the main direction of the management board. However, visitors can experience traveling on this train for a distance of 7 km from Da Lat Station to Trai Mat Station and vice versa to experience the feeling of sitting on the oldest train in Indochina. This is also an activity that many tourists love when coming to “the flower city”. During 7 km on the train, visitors will have the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery on both sides of the track, especially in the blooming seasons. This will be an unforgettable experience for visitors. Besides the ancient, Da Lat Train Station also owns another record as the Train Station has the highest position in Vietnam when located at an altitude of more than 1500m above sea level. Obviously there are too many reasons you should come and check-in with this place
2. History of formation and impressive architectural style of Dalat Railway Station
According to many historical documents, Da Lat Railway Station is the first point in the Da Lat – Thap Cham railway, which was started by the French in 1932 and completed in 1938. The work was designed by two famous French architects, Moncet and Reveron, with a construction cost of about 200,000 francs at that time. At the time of construction, this was a relatively busy passenger and freight railway with many cargo compartments, and three passenger compartments. After the French left Vietnam, this railway continued to be used for many different purposes and was completely stopped around 1972.
Da Lat Railway Station is considered as one of the most impressive architectural works still intact in Da Lat city. In particular, the most prominent is the indigenous design style with 3 pointed pyramids on the roof representing the 3 peaks of Langbiang mountain (the highest mountain in Da Lat city) or the Rong roofs (Communal House) associated with daily life of the people of Da Lat in particular and the Central Highlands in general. The structure of this work is considered by experts to be relatively coherent, reasonable with extremely delicate form. The work is built in harmony with nature and is a unique highlight in urban architecture with outstanding hot colors, warming up the relatively cold space of the highland city. In addition, with a relatively nostalgic architectural style and space, Da Lat Railway Station is not only a favorite place for those who love to learn about culture and history, but also a super hot check-in point for young people, as well as an ideal place that many people choose to take wedding photos, and so on.
