PHO – A DISH REPRESENTING VIETNAMESE CULINARY CULTURE
Pho in the daily life of Vietnamese people
With the diversity in climate and natural conditions stretching from the North to the South, from the East to the West. The culinary culture of each region and each locality in the territory of Vietnam is also extremely different. These differences interfere and resonate to create a truly diverse and attractive Vietnam on the world culinary map. In which, it is impossible not to mention “Pho”, a proper noun recognized by the Oxford dictionary that has guaranteed the popularity of this traditional Vietnamese dish among international friends.
Initially “Pho” is a quintessential dish originating from the Northern cultural region, specifically Hanoi and Nam Dinh, then this rustic dish has been popularized throughout the territory of Vietnam. Wherever “Pho” passes through, this dish is modified with many different flavors and forms to suit the taste and condition of each region. But in general, the main ingredient of “Pho” must still include “Banh Pho” (made from rice flour) along with a “broth” that is stewed from beef bones and typical spices and then added “meats” like beef, thinly sliced chicken.
Pho is present in every corner of Vietnam from North to South, from indoors to outdoors, from sidewalks to luxury restaurants, from poor working-class areas to the elite. For Vietnamese, “Pho” is not only a delicious dish in terms of cuisine, but also a story about preserving the quintessential values of Vietnamese people to reach the world
